This Weekend

So, first off, I'm still carless over two weeks after my accident. (Well, OK, not carless, but... if I had a working digital camera right now you'd see why I don't want to drive it.) The report isn't ready, so I can't do anything as far as insurance goes. I've called almost every other day, and nothing yet. :/

Other fun things that happened:

There was a Nintendo DS buying spree this weekend. Nathan and Crystal already had one. Jen decided to buy one for Animal Crossing and New Super Mario Bros. Then Nathan decided to get his own (thus not having to share one with Crystal) for the new Pokémon.

Now I was very intrigued by Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros., and Nathan's description of Pokémon so I too got one.

I have to say that the wireless implementation is awesome. You can play a few of the two-player New Super Mario Bros. minigames with only one cartridge. You can go to the "local multiplayer" room on Pokémon and see all of the other people in the area who are in "local multiplayer."

You can trade Pokémon over the internet. I don't know why that's so cool but it is. It's been done before (WoW Auction House, etc.) but on a console? A handheld, even?

So I spent about 6 hours playing Pokémon Pearl this weekend. It's strangely entertaining because... well, you apparently have to catch all of them, as the kids say. Yeah, it'll get old like WoW did because, in the end, it's going to be a "get loot so you can use it to get more loot" sorta game. And at least there's the perception of rivalry with other players--that'll probably end soon because Nathan plays way more than I do, and has played earlier games. But it's entertaining for now.

For those interested, my Pokémon friend code is 5455 6001 6587 and my Mario Kart DS friend code is 300746 884235.

Also, here's an interesting video that got passed around the office today.

Hmm. I figured I'd put the summary, just like I do on the front page.

I guess I'll change that later this evening.
