Near: Crossville, TN
Trails: Trails I have hiked are:
- Pioneer Loop / Pioneer Short Loop: The full loop is around 5.5 miles, while the short loop is around 2 miles.
- It’s a fairly flat hike in most places, but there’s a fair amount of rocks and roots along the trail.
- I went the day after a storm, and there were some slick spots (including the suspension bridge), water on the trail (some of which might just be normal), and one shallow creek crossing that felt a little tricky. I would definitely wear waterproof boots with good tread.
- Some of the most interesting scenery was on the longer loop, so it’s worth the extra walk.
- It can be a little tricky to find the south portion of the loop from the S. Old Mail Road bridge; it’s a small downhill trail just past the bridge along the curve in the road.
